Topologie: where climbing culture meets urban design

Topologie: where climbing culture meets urban design

Some brands are built around a product. Topologie was built around an idea. An idea about what everyday objects could be if they were designed with the same precision, trust and intention we bring to gear that literally keeps us safe on a cliff face.

At BORNISIMO, we carry Topologie because it represents something genuinely different — a brand that redefines what an accessory can be, and challenges the way we think about what we carry every day. You can find their pieces in our physical store in Barcelona and in our online shop.

It all started with a climbing rope

Born from the shared passion of rock climbing enthusiasts from France and Japan in 2018, Topologie was built around a vision of perfect harmony between form and function, drawing directly from the world of climbing gear.

The founding idea was simple but striking: take a climbing rope and a pulley, miniaturise them, and create a bracelet. The result was the Yosemite Bracelet — the piece that launched everything. From there, the brand began exploring how the aesthetics and engineering of climbing equipment could be translated into bags, straps, phone accessories and everyday carry essentials, without losing any of the rigour that makes climbing gear worth trusting.

The conviction at the heart of Topologie is straightforward: the objects we carry every day deserve to be designed with the same thoughtfulness we bring to who we are.

The Wares System™: over 1,000 ways to carry

The most distinctive thing about Topologie is not any single product — it is the system that connects them all. At the core of the brand's philosophy is a co-design concept that gave birth to the Topologie Wares System™, an innovative modular ecosystem that integrates style and functionality. It currently offers over 120 interchangeable straps in all styles and sizes, and more than 1,000 possible product combinations, empowering urban travellers to co-create and curate their own unique carry essentials.

The logic is elegant: every bag, every phone case and every strap in the Topologie range is designed to connect with every other piece in the system. You can build, minimise, interchange, swap and experiment — creating your own signature look by combining bags, cases and straps in a way that is entirely your own.

This is not customisation as a gimmick. It is a genuine design philosophy — one that prioritises longevity, adaptability and personal expression over disposability and trend cycles.

What you'll find at BORNISIMO

We stock a carefully selected range of Topologie pieces across three core categories:

Bags and sacoches. Technical, thoughtfully organised and built to move with you. The Phone Sacoche, for example, is structured with dedicated compartments for your phone and passport, versatile pockets for small items, and daisy chain webbing to attach additional accessories — all compatible with the full range of interchangeable Wares System™ straps. Whether you are navigating Barcelona's streets or heading to the airport, these bags keep everything exactly where it needs to be.

Straps and lanyards. The backbone of the Wares System™. Every strap in the collection is evolved from authentic climbing ropes and gear, available in a wide range of thicknesses, materials and colourways. Some, like the leather wrist strap, are made from vegetable-tanned leather and feature a daisy chain that lets you attach small essentials and switch between handheld and shoulder carry with ease. Others lean into the technical rope aesthetic that defines the brand's DNA.

Phone accessories. Topologie offers minimalist, customisable phone cases with a shockproof and adjustable design — available in a wide range of colours and fully compatible with the brand's strap system. Functional, considered and far more interesting than anything else you will find in this category.

Sustainable by design

Topologie's commitment to quality is inseparable from its approach to sustainability. The materials used in their products consist of more than 65% recycled content — a percentage that continues to grow — and all packaging is made entirely from recycled materials.

Beyond that, Topologie runs a dedicated project to collect discarded climbing ropes from climbers around the world. These ropes are washed and treated through an eco-friendly process, then given a second life in special capsule collections developed in collaboration with various brands and artists.

This is a refusal of the disposable. Pieces designed to last and to adapt do not need to be replaced — only reinvented. In an economy that still treats objects as temporary, Topologie proposes the opposite: invest in less, but better.

For the urban explorer

Topologie's minimalist designs ensure that its accessories are timeless. By focusing on sustainable, multifunctional products, the brand goes against the fast-changing cycles of fast fashion. These are objects built to last — and to evolve with you.

The Topologie customer is someone who moves through the city with intention. Someone who appreciates objects that have been genuinely thought through — where the carabiner clip is not decorative, the rope strap is not just a texture, and the modular system is not a marketing concept but a real answer to how modern life works.

With retail stores in Paris, Tokyo, Taipei and Hong Kong, Topologie has established itself as a global reference in functional design — and now, in Barcelona, through BORNISIMO.
