Sustainable fashion: why we bet on eco-friendly brands at BORNISIMO

Organic products and respect for the environment are no longer a passing trend — they are the new standard of responsible consumption. At BORNISIMO, we have been committed to sustainable fashion for years, both as a business model and as a genuine pledge to the planet.

Our multi-brand project was built around a clear purpose: bringing together labels that share essential values, such as designing garments based on ecological and organic principles, always prioritising the care of our environment.

In 2019, we were awarded the Biosphere Committed Entity seal by Barcelona City Council. We were among the first 50 establishments in the city to receive this certification, which recognises companies and brands that meet sustainability principles and pursue continuous improvement on their path to becoming more eco-friendly.

What is sustainable fashion?

Ethical or sustainable fashion is built on three fundamental pillars: respect for the environment, fair and dignified working conditions for everyone involved in the production chain, and the conservation of natural resources.

Talking about sustainability goes far beyond environmental care. It means considering every actor in the ecosystem: people, animals and the natural world.

The rise of the conscious consumer

Over the years, consumers have evolved alongside brands. Today, it is no longer enough for a garment to look good or have a great design. The origin of the fabrics, the chemical composition, the manufacturing process, the brand's identity and its ecological awareness are all factors that carry increasing weight in purchasing decisions.

Despite the progress made, the textile industry remains the second most polluting sector in the world, behind only the oil industry. That is why more and more companies are developing sustainable alternatives to conventional production methods.

What materials do sustainable brands use?

Eco-friendly brands produce their garments using raw materials free from chemicals, insecticides, pesticides and genetic modifications. Some of the most widely used materials in this new era of textile production include:

  • Organic cotton
  • Recycled fabrics made from PET bottles
  • Bamboo fibres
  • Cashmere wool
  • Tencel
  • Hemp
  • Water-based inks

Why choose eco-friendly brands?

Embracing sustainable fashion has a real and measurable impact. Here are some of the reasons why it is worth making the switch:

  • Reduces the environmental footprint of the textile industry
  • Encourages responsible and conscious consumption
  • Strengthens local and artisan production
  • Guarantees high-quality, longer-lasting garments
  • Supports unique, personalised and innovative designs
  • Promotes fair trade and ethical competition
  • Defends human rights throughout the entire supply chain
  • Drives good practices across the fashion industry

At BORNISIMO, we invite you to consume differently

If you have made it this far, you are already part of the change. At BORNISIMO, we do not just sell organic products and sustainable items — we want to build a conscious community committed to caring for our planet.
