Reinventing sneakers
The idea behind a pair of VEJA : to keep one foot in design and the other in social responsibility.
Cotton treated like leather is an innovative, vegetarian, and bio-based alternative to leather. Its unique feature is that it's made from cotton coated with a plant-based polyurethane (PU). This PU is composed of 50% corn waste from the food industry and 50% regular PU.
VEJA is a maverick. VEJA was created in 2005 during the dot-com bubble: many of our friends worked for startups or internet-related companies. This collective enthusiasm for the virtual world pushed us in the opposite direction, towards reinventing a brick-and-mortar product.
Responsible production
The search for meaning, the creativity of industry to break with conventional production processes, responsible manufacturing models, products created with environmental innovation, and companies where respect for human and animal rights is the priority, is what our current society needs.
Since 2004, the brand has worked with agricultural producers in Brazil and Peru. They supply the 100% organic and agroecological raw materials used to make the shoes.
Fair and equitable trade for all parties involved in the production chain is a priority. Opening new markets means more decent work—work for everyone involved in this great project that is constantly evolving.
Care: Using a washing machine is not recommended as it may alter the properties of the different materials.
Before wearing your shoes for the first time, we recommend that you waterproof your shoes with a spray adapted to the material and repeat this operation regularly.
Later, your shoes will take on the shape and feel that will indicate that I have already made them to your foot.
